March 31

Yesterday was a rough day for Dad. Little sleep and extreme discomfort. However , Help has arrived . Home care and the palliative team have been to the house and Dad has been given a few new things to make him comfortable.  He has an IV for fluids as it’s hard to keep up with drinking enough water .  He has been feeling short of breath, partly due to a build up of fluid again that is putting pressure on his left lung.  He now has oxygen at home that is helping and he will have a procedure on Monday to remove the fluid build up again.  He has also been given a steroid to help him during the day and that has improved his appetite. He ate some small solids at dinner time and some wagon wheel desserts. Good to see him eat again.  He also has cracked a few Dad jokes .  The decision was also made that it’s time to move to a hospice . He has been added to the list for the first available bed . He needs care to help him stay comfortable and everyone, including Scot...

March 26-28

Hello, Sorry it’s been a few days !  If you have pictures you’d like to add. Email them to me and I’ll make a post! J.Arthurs@gmail.com The weekend was pretty low key.  My dads nephew Doug and his wife Benyapa came to visit for just a couple hours. They brought some delicious food and a fruit basket. Everyone has been so thoughtful !  Sunday evening we headed to Tyler’s house to have a birthday dinner for Eli who is now 14!  Linnea has prepared a full turkey dinner . Delicious .  We didn’t stay too long since the hospital called to tell us that we may have been a covid close contact from the prior week, however it’s been quite a few days since the potential close contact, and a few rapid tests later we felt confident that covid is unlikely to show its face from that call. But a good reminder to stay safe and take care of yourselves.  Monday Jeff came over in the morning to visit and spend time with Dad, and a couple of Dads old work friends stopped in...

March 25

It’s Friday!  Today, Mom and Dad had a few appointments to get out of the way. Then Dad spent the morning visiting with Jeff, they spent some time out in the shop looking for some tools and putting some dirt on the ice. Spring is here.  Dad also  spent some time today doing the scratch and win lotto tickets that have been coming in the mail!  Joanne (me) had mentioned it to a few people that maybe it would be a fun distraction to send Scott some in the mail.  And a few envelopes have been showing up. Some winners too! No jackpots yet!  28018 Twp Rd 514, parkland county ,ab, T7Y 3J5 I’ve always found that getting personalized mail brightens my day and that has proven true this past week as well.  Jamie and I have been working from home, and Tyler has his kids for spring break.  Dad was feeling pretty comfortable today, and was craving some donuts for breakfast. So that’s what they had!  Any questions or updates you’d like, leave them in ...

March 24 . First Update on Scott

Scott is now home with his family. We will use this forum to share any updates so we can let everyone know about what's going on. We truly appreciate your care and can feel the love from all across the globe. We would like time to process the news, as you can imagine its overwhelming. As much as it would be nice to be able to respond to messages and phone calls; texting back the same news multiple times, is something that feels too big to tackle at the moment. Here's what we know. Scott has pancreatic cancer that has made its way to other areas in his abdomen. It became noticeable around end of December with some stomach pains. The visit to the Cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton was today, March 24, 2022. The amazing doctors and care team answered all the questions that we, as a family, have had. The cancer is advanced enough that Chemo or other treatments are not a reasonable option. Scott does not want to spend what time he has left feeling the eff...
