Yesterday was a rough day for Dad. Little sleep and extreme discomfort. However , Help has arrived . Home care and the palliative team have been to the house and Dad has been given a few new things to make him comfortable.
He has an IV for fluids as it’s hard to keep up with drinking enough water .
He has been feeling short of breath, partly due to a build up of fluid again that is putting pressure on his left lung.
He now has oxygen at home that is helping and he will have a procedure on Monday to remove the fluid build up again.
He has also been given a steroid to help him during the day and that has improved his appetite. He ate some small solids at dinner time and some wagon wheel desserts. Good to see him eat again.
He also has cracked a few Dad jokes .
The decision was also made that it’s time to move to a hospice . He has been added to the list for the first available bed . He needs care to help him stay comfortable and everyone, including Scott agrees that the professionals would be best at it.
This will allow for time spent with him to be truly “time spent with him” and not trying to figure out what we can do to help him get more comfortable. We will leave that to the experts and let our time be spent coming up with more jokes and puns .
The availability of a hospice room could come at any time. We don’t have a timeline.
More scratchers showed up too! Everyone who has been sending them … Thank you. It’s so lovely to watch him open the mail and get a surprise in it.

Sorry to hear this Janet, my prayers are with you and Scott. Betty & Rick Prieston. If you need anything just call.

DeleteHi Scott It was hard to hear this news my old friend. I was fortunate to have had you as a mentor, a boss, and a true friend. You were a big part of my early days as a mechanic. You will always hold a special place in my heart. Many fond memories of our times together. Our thoughts and prayer are with you, Janet and your family. Much Love Howard and Linda Hammermeister
